Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public talker. She is the co-founder of Feminist Frequency an online platform that offers videos and blog posts that analyze depictions of women's roles in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. Feminist Frequency is an educational non-profit website that examines female representations in the popular media narratives. Removing gender stereotypes is her main focus. She also is keen to draw attention to issues such as the targeting and bullying of women in the online world. Sarkeesian, who holds a Master's in Political and Social Theory from York University, is also well-known as a sought-after public presenter. She has given speeches at TEDxWomen's XOXO and the United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. From an early age, Sarkeesian was fascinated by the issues surrounding gender identity and feminist ideas. In her final year at university, in 2009, she launched her Feminist Frequency site. A woman who was ambitious had a plan to make a web series to study the role of gender within games. However, she found herself at the center of an online harassment campaign. But the harassment did not hinder her. The experience only strengthened her as a feminist journalist. Her notable contributions to the field of feminist has been acknowledged by many awards. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for several years and was the creator of Feminist Frequency An non-profit educational organization that studies gender representation in popular culture.
